Hyundai IONIQ 5 is set to be launched in India this year; The company plans to bring 6 EVs by 2028

Hyundai Motor India has recently confirmed that the globally acclaimed IONIQ 5 would be launched in India this year. Hyundai’s BEV growth ambitions across the country will be marked by this vehicle. In 2019, the brand launched the Kona electric SUV, and now the IONIQ 5 will be the brand’s second electric vehicle in India. This news came after Kia announced plans to launch the EV6 in India in May 2022.

What is expected from this car?

IONIQ 5 name is derived from a mix of the words “ion” and “unique,” and it was announced as long-term research and development initiative focused on sustainable mobility. The IONIQ brand was created to combine ‘life-changing mobility with environmental performance.’

 The IONIQ 5 is expected to have a revolutionary exterior and interior design, as it is based on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Several touchpoints inside the cabin of the all-electric CUV will be made of environmentally friendly materials. According to Hyundai, the E-GMP was built on four key pillars, viz. Modularity, Reliability, Usability, and Performance. The meaning of these pillars is:

  • A single platform that can accommodate a variety of body forms, with a modularized battery system and higher synergies through BEV component sharing.
  • E-GMP will pave the path for very reliable BEVs of the future, thanks to its low center of gravity, usage of Ultra High Strength Steel, and 8-point battery mounting.
  • The E-GMP will usher in a new era of usability with its flat floor and adjustable seating layout, as well as a novel interior area that includes a sliding console and sliding 2nd-row seats.
  • The E-GMP will bring a component of fun-to-drive electric vehicles with its enormous battery capacity, enhanced handling, and a top speed of 260 km/h.
