Auto Expo 2023: These Electric cars will be under spotlight during the event

The future is of electric vehicles! This is very much evident from the rising demand for EVs in both the two-wheeler and four-wheeler segments. Automobile manufacturers are also reacting to the sudden increase in demand for EV. Tata Motors currently dominates the electric 4-wheeler segment, with a lion market share of more than 80%. Many electric vehicles (EVs) will arrive in the country over the next few years. This article will provide you with a list of possible or confirmed Electric vehicles that will be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in January.

Maruti SUV EV Concept

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that its futuristic SUV EV concept will be on display at the 16th edition of the Indian Auto Expo. The new Maruti SUV EV concept, internally codenamed YY8, will preview the brand’s first EV for the Indian market. This electric vehicle will be available in the first half of 2025. It will be built on Toyota’s 27PL platform, a more affordable version of the 40PL platform. The new model is expected to come with two battery packs: 48kWh with a range of close to 400km and 59kWh with a range of 500km on a single charge. It will be available in both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

MG EVs

At the biennial event, MG Motor India will reveal the India-spec Air 2-door electric car. In addition to this urban EV, the company will display the MG 4 EV at the Auto Expo 2023. In the Euro NCAP crash test, this electric hatch received a 5-star safety rating. The new MG 4 EV is available with 51kWh and 64kWh battery pack options, delivering 170bhp and 203bhp, respectively, and is based on SAIC’s modular Scalable Platform (MSP) platform. Both models feature a single-motor RWD system and a maximum torque of 250Nm. According to the WLTP cycle, the 51kWh battery version has a range of 350km and the 64kWh battery pack has a range of 452km on a single charge.

At the Auto Expo, MG Motor India is expected to unveil the Air 2 door EV. The new entry-level MG EV, based on the China-spec Wuling Air EV, is set to hit the assembly line in March 2023. The new MG electric car will most likely be powered by a battery pack ranging from 20kWh to 25kWh. It will produce close to 40bhp and have an electric range of approximately 150km. The battery pack will use LFP cylindrical cells, similar to those found in the Tata Nexon EV. These cells are lighter and more charge efficient than NMC cells, and they require no maintenance. Tata AutoComp will supply MG with batteries locally. The Air EV will be equipped with a FWD (front-wheel drive) system. It will be about 2.9 metres long and have a wheelbase of 2010mm.

Hyundai EVs

Hyundai will reveal pricing for the Ioniq 5 electric crossover at the 2023 Auto Show. Interested buyers can reserve the new EV online or at an authorised dealership for Rs 1 lakh. The EV is built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which also serves as the foundation for the Kia EV6. It is available with two battery pack options: 72.6kWh and 58kWh, with ranges of approximately 384km and 481km, respectively.

At the auto show, Hyundai will also display the recently unveiled Ioniq 6 electric sedan. It is built on the E-GMP skateboard architecture, which also serves as the foundation for the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV comes with two battery sizes: 53kWh and 77kWh. The rear-wheel drive version with a 53kWh battery has a range of 429km, while the RWD with a 77.4kwh battery has a range of 614km. The AWD model has a WLTP certified range of 583 kilometres.

Tata EVs at Auto Expo

Tata Motors, which currently rules the EV segment, plans to further strengthen its position by introducing a slew of new models over the next few years. At the biennial event, the company will display a number of EVs. The company is expected to display the production-ready Altroz EV at the event. In addition, the Punch-based micro EV SUV could be shown to the public. At the Auto Show 2023, Tata Motors will also present various versions of the Curvv and Avinya EV concepts.

BYD

BYD, or Build Your Dreams, the Chinese EV manufacturer, will debut its new Atto 3 electric SUV at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023. The Atto 3 is priced at Rs 33.99 lakh and is positioned as a premium alternative to the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. The Atto 3 is claimed to have a range of 521km on a single charge, thanks to its 60kWh BYD Blade battery pack. At the biennial event, BYD will not only display Atto 3, but also a number of its global EVs.
