Why Augmented Intelligence is considered a better cohabitant with humans than Artificial Intelligence?

by Shatakshi Gupta

In this era of ICT, we often encounter buzzwords like AI, VR, AR and so on. These things have a significant potential to transform our lives. So, it becomes important to understand these things better. Today, we will discuss about one such tech buzzword, viz. Augmented Intelligence and will give you reasons why it is better than Artificial Intelligence.

First, What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence means intellectual ability developed in an artificial way. According to John McCarthy, the father of artificial intelligence, it is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs, that is, the intelligence demonstrated by the machines.

Through AI, a computer system or robotic system is created, which is tried to run on the basis of the same logic, on the basis of which the human brain works. Artificial intelligence is a way of making computer-controlled robots or software think intelligently like humans. It studies about how the human brain thinks and learns, makes decisions, and works in a similar manner to solve problems.

What is Augmented Intelligence?

Augmented Intelligence or Intelligence amplification, on the other hand, is referred to as decision support, cognitive augmentation, and machine augmented intelligence. In a way, it is similar to Artificial Intelligence with lesser autonomy to machines.

In Artificial Intelligence machines or software are created to perform tasks and react like humans. Whereas, In Augmented Intelligence roles of machines is limited to collecting, collating and simplifying the data and decisions are made by humans based on that information. Here humans and machines work in better harmony. In other words, the primary objective of IA is to empower humans to work better and smarter.

How does it work?

Through Augmented Intelligence platforms collect all sorts of data relevant data from innumerable sources, across the complex web and present it in a way that gives humans a holistic 360-degree view. It is impossible in the human capacity to collect this much deeper insights. Consequently, the best decisions can be made on the basis of such data.

Applications of Augmented Intelligence:

  • Banking
  • Health sector
  • Agriculture
  • Research and Development
  • Education
  • Environment conversation
  • Business strategies
  • Law enforcement

Makes a better harmony with humans:

Both Artificial intelligence and Intelligence amplification make the human task easier, but IA only sticks to the collection and presentation of relevant information. It overcomes the limitation of emotional intelligence that AI lacks. Moreover, Artificial intelligence, in a long run, will make humans over-relied on it and hinder our growth. Augmented Intelligence, in contrast, will empower us and make us more productive.
